How to use the Campaign Planner

Get an overview of how the campaign planner works and how easily you can plan your ad campaigns

Once you've created your campaign and set your planning preferences at the top of the interface, you're ready to start adding podcasts and channels. Check out this article to learn how to discover relevant podcasts.

At the top of your campaign planning selection, you’ll see several ways to add content:

  • Recommendations
Get podcast suggestions tailored to your campaign preferences.

  • Add Channels
Choose from a wide selection of channels provided by sales houses or add your own custom channels.

  • Add Podcasts
Open the full database and search for any podcast you’d like to include.

  • Edit in Search
The easiest way to add podcasts. This takes you directly to the Podcast Search tool with your campaign auto-selected in the sidebar, so you can start adding right away.

Planning Your Campaign

Once you've added podcasts or channels to your campaign, it's time to set up the details. Each podcast or channel appears in its own row, allowing you to configure:

  • Preferred Sales House
If a podcast has only one sales house, it’s auto-selected. Otherwise, you can choose your preferred one.

  • Ad Type
Pick between Host Read, Presenter Read, or a Podcast Spot — depending on availability and your goals.

  • Ad Slot
Decide where you want your ad to appear: pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll. Some sales houses offer bundle deals with lower CPMs if you're flexible on placement.

  • Ad Duration
Select the length of your ad. Pricing (CPM) may vary depending on the duration.

Once you've set all parameters, the pricing section on the right will unlock, showing the CPM based on your selections. The final step is to define the number of impressions (targets) you want to book.

You can choose from three impression types:

  • Ad Server
Ads are dynamically inserted. You can book as many impressions as are available, as long as you meet the minimum threshold.

  • Ad Server (Packages)
Some sales houses offer impressions in fixed packages (e.g., 500,000 impressions per package). Select the number of packages needed.

  • Episode (Baked In)
Although less common today, some podcasts allow baked-in ads — these are permanently included in the episode audio.

Pick the option that best aligns with your goals and what’s available for that show. Once completed, you’ll see the final calculated cost. At the bottom, you'll find the total cost for all items in your selection.

What If No Sales House Information Is Available?

We work in close partnership with many of Germany’s leading sales houses and offer verified data for over 1,500 marketed podcasts. However, in some cases, after adding a podcast to your campaign, you might see a notice indicating that no sales house information is available. This simply means that none of our partner sales houses have provided data for this specific show.

This can happen for two main reasons

  • The Podcast Is Not Marketed
Less than 10% of all available podcasts in Germany are actively marketed. This includes many of the biggest shows—especially those from public broadcasters, who are legally not allowed to run ads.

  • The Sales House Does Not Partner with PODIUS
While we cover a majority of the German podcast ad market, not all sales houses are part of our network (yet). We're actively working on expanding our partnerships to close these gaps.

If no data is available, you can still add the podcast using manual editing mode. This lets you define all parameters yourself (e.g., ad types, ad slots, CPMs), but it won’t include automated validation or verified pricing. In this case, you’ll need to contact the relevant sales house directly to confirm availability and pricing.

Applying Discounts

Some sales houses offer discounts for bulk bookings. These can vary by sales house, and PODIUS gives you full control over how discounts are applied.

By default, discounts are turned off for your organization. To enable them, ask a coordinator to go to podius.io settings. Coordinators can also manage and edit global discounts here.

Discount Types Available:

  • Discount

  • Special Discount

  • Agency Commission (AC)

  • Cash Discount

Discounts can be set on different levels:

  • Global
Automatically applied to all campaigns for each sales house.

  • Campaign
Overrides the global level for specific campaigns.

  • Podcast
Overrides both campaign and global levels, giving full control at the individual podcast level.

Coordinators can also lock specific discounts to prevent team members from making changes.

Exporting the Cost Summary

Once you're happy with your campaign plan, you can export a detailed cost summary. The summary is available as a spreadsheet for easy integration into your booking system. You can also generate a client-ready PDF in various formats for easy sharing.
